It felt great to get back to nature after two weeks holed up in our RV with some nasty virus we picked up in Vegas!
We weren't, however, well enough to attempt the hike this time to Angels Landing, so we opted for an easier hike and scenic drive. As a side note a permit is required to hike Angels Landing. https://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/angels-landing-hiking-permits.htm
We made an initial stop at the visitor center, then made our way by vehicle to Zion Canyon Overlook Trail. The cost to enter the park was $35.00, and we again saved by using our America the Beautiful pass, which we purchased back in October at the start of our trip for $80.00.

There is parking along the sides of the road, and you may have to walk a ways to the trailhead, depending on the time of year and how busy the park is. Zion Canyon Overlook Trail is a 1-mile out-and-back trail and takes about 1 hour to finish. The trail is accessible all year and is beautiful to visit at any time. Please note that dogs are not permitted on this trail.
The Canyon Overlook Trail provides some of the most stunning views of Zion Canyon. Situated in the Upper East Canyon section of the park, this trail is one of the few official paths in the area. Unfortunately, this means that the shuttle does not stop at the trailhead. To embark on this hike, you must enter the park with a private vehicle.
Wear good shoes, the trail is uneven and has some sharp rocks as well sand on top of rock and some surfaces can be slippery. In summer you'll want to take water and wear a hat there is not much shade. Visiting during winter was great as parking was easier less crowds and the weather more tolerable.
It was a fairly easy trail, and the views at the end were worth the hike. We made our way back to our truck and hit the road again, this time for a drive along the Zion Canyon Scenic Route. The route offers a few designated areas to pull off and admire the views. It is a beautiful drive through the towering canyons. Zion is beautiful, and I'm glad we were finally able to add it to our bucket list of places seen.
Zion Canyon Brew Pub
We passed Zion Brewing on our way into the park, and it was now on our radar to hit up for lunch on the way home. Nestled between the canyon, the outdoor patio was the perfect spot to enjoy a flight and a bite. The portions were huge, and the food was tasty. Definitely make a stop on your way through. https://zionbrewery.com/
